AT the start of the new Rotary year, Karen Dorney handed over the reins to newly-elected president Vicky Gaunt who accepted her chain of office at a grand installation ceremonial dinner on Friday, July 12 at Oaklands Hall in Hyde.
The club, now in its 83rd year, entertained 48 guests including Vicky’s close family and friends, assistant governor Marian Basu and members from Tameside Rotary.
Vicky, who originated from Stalybridge, and her husband Aidan, who was president of the club in 2014-15, have been Rotarians for 10 years and are the joint proprietors of Aidan Gaunt Funeral Services in Hyde. They live in Godley.
Vicky, previously a Macmillan nurse, thanked Karen for leading the club in the last 12 months explaining she is going to be a difficult act to follow.
She added in her year the club will continue to support local and international community projects, polio eradication, and Rotary International charities.
In addition, Vicky will be focusing on supporting local children’s disabled charities as a son, one of her four children, is disabled.
