ST PAUL’S Primary School has proved untouchable again after walking away with their fourth tag rugby competition in a row.The Hyde establishment was a step ahead of the rest, literally, as the Tameside Catholic School Sports Association title made its way to Turner Lane for the second successive year.
That joins the overall Tameside title – now the aim is to go one step further by adding the Greater Manchester Winter Games title in March.
Earlier this year, St Paul’s were defeated in the final by a school from Leigh. After seeing off Denton’s St John Fisher, they are heading there again.
Deputy head Peter Allen said: “The children played brilliantly throughout the tournament.
“They played with great team spirit and determination. We played St John Fisher in an exciting final that went to extra time.
“We scored the first try in extra time and managed to defend really well until the final whistle. I am so proud of the team and their hard work and dedication.
“We’re really looking forward to the Greater Manchester Winter Games in March where we will represent Tameside again.
“We have now won the Tameside and the Tameside Catholic schools tag rugby competitions two years running.”
