Local charity helps feed the homeless and those in need

HYDE Rotary continues to support those unfortunate to sleep on the streets.With support from schools and churches, Hyde Rotary collect and collate harvest festival every year.

This year the club collected more than 3,500 non-perishable items ranging from soups, beans, spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, tuna and toothpaste.

Club members Barry Carey and Alan Oldham delivered the items to Lifeshare, Manchester; The Wellspring, Stockport; Infinity Initiatives, Ashton; Sandwich Angels, Hyde, and three Hyde Foodbanks.

Vicky Gaunt, president of Hyde Rotary, said homelessness is still a big problem in Manchester and Tameside and one of their guiding principles is to “find ways to improve the quality of life for people within our community”.

“I would like to think that my club with the help from the local churches and schools has gone some way to help improve the lives of our homeless community,” she said.
