Eagles net league honours

HYDE-BASED basketball players realised their hoop dreams by netting a league title.Players from Tameside Eagles are feeling top of the shop after winning the Stockport Sport For All Division One title in the Year 5-6 age group.

The Eagles, who train at Alder Community High School, had a fantastic season, gaining 51 league points and racking up 477 points, meaning they scored about 235 baskets over 20 games.

Tameside Basketball Club as a whole is made up of eight teams, ranging from school year four right through to a men’s national division team.

The seniors made a strong start to their National Basketball League Division Three campaign by winning at Warrington-based Cheshire Wire and Team Sunderland before going down 62-79 at Teesside Lions.

They played their first home match at Alder High School on Stockport Road in Gee Cross on Sunday, October 27.

Tameside Basketball Club is always looking for new players, So if you are school years four to 13 and are interested in finding out more, come along to Alder High School on a Wednesday evening between 7pm and 8pm.

Coaches there can advise which training group would be suitable for you and give more details about the teams.

In other basketball action, Tameside Vikings defeated Holy Cross Spinners 82-31 in their first Manchester Area Basketball League game of the Season.

Aron Heywood notched 29 points while Carl Rose hit 17.
