Golf club saddened by Tony’s death

WERNETH Low Golf Club was saddened to learn of the death of popular member Tony Vallantine.Tony, who worked as a painter and decorator, was a former junior organiser at the golf club.
Members turned out in force at Hyde Chapel for Tony’s funeral.

Tony’s daughter Emma is the current lady captain at Werneth Low Golf Club and his wife Karen was lady captain in 2018.

Werneth Low’s Winter League has teed off with Simon Armstrong the winner of the opening 11-hole Stableford with 25 points, once clear of runner-up Iain White.

The best 10 results from the weekly competitions will determine the winner.

Winner of an 18-hole Stableford was Peter Sidebottom with 37 points as he finished well clear of second-placed Dave Hardman (31pts) and Alastair Smith (30) who was third.

Winner of an 18-hole medal was Iain White after a round of 76-7-69.

Second was Dave Masterman (82-11-71) while third was Chris Ventress (84-12-72) on the card from Frazer Armitage (79-7-72).

The second division was won by Gary Hollingworth (89-18-71) from Lou Arrowsmith (86-14-72) and Stephen Penney (98-25-73).

The women’s section held three nine-hole handicap qualifiers.

There were victories for Sandra Phillips, Jean Riley and Joan Mayers.
