ISABELLE Thomas could not conceal her delight after being given the chance to be Tameside’s mini mayor for the day.The six-year-old from Bradley Green Primary Academy, Hyde, was full of smiles as she had her own ceremonial robe and chain as she attended school assembly with Civic Mayor Cllr Leigh Drennan.
Cllr Drennan spoke to pupils about the history and role as the borough’s first citizen and was then quizzed in a question-and-answer session.
Isaballe, whose grandparents Laurence and Janice Wadsworth live opposite Cllr Philip Fitzpatrick, was interested in the role of mayor.
Cllr Fitzpatrick suggested Isabelle write to the mayor to ask whether she could be invited to meet him in the mayor’s parlour.
But the civic mayor decided to pay a visit to Bradley Green Primary Academy for a special junior assembly.
After both the civic mayor and mini mayor put on their robes and chains they were led into the school hall by Cllr Drennan’s attendant carrying the civic mace.
Cllr Fitzpatrick, who attended the assembly, described Isabelle’s handwriting as the neatest he had ever seen from a child.
